1-Hour Free Lot
A user said, “I was poor and desperate for a job. Drove downtown to walk into restaurants and apply (2009). I parked in a 1 hr free lot. Finished my rounds and went to leave. Lost my ticket. Had to pay the full amount [of] $15. I couldn’t afford it. The only way they could let me go was to ticket me $40.”
Can’t afford something? Maybe paying double will help.
Convenience Fees
“Convenience fees for sure ‘Hey, you want to give us money in an easier way? Well give us more money to do it,’” another user remarked.
Hotel Water
One user mentioned that they “Had to pay a fee for using a water fountain at a hotel lobby.”
Imagine having to pay for water you could drink from your sink for free. Maybe the hotel water this user paid for had nutrients.
Forgotten Appointments
“Missed appointment fee for an appointment I never scheduled & had never been informed that the office scheduled it for me,” one user said.
Most of us have probably missed an appointment before. This user, however, missed an appointment he’d never even scheduled. On top of that, he was charged a fee for missing the appointment.
Resort Fees
Another user commented, “Resort fees at a hotel.”
When you’ve booked a stay at a resort and believe all your hotel fees are accounted for, think again.
Bathroom Fees
Someone remarked, “The bathroom fee in clubs when the lady hands you a towel you can and have picked up for yourself. I feel guilty and angry all at once.”
Ticket Confirmation
Imagine the frustration of having to pay to receive a ticket you’ve just paid for. This user can relate.
“One of the Denver teams’ games I went to had two choices: Paper ticket = $10.50 ‘environmental’ fee [or] Ticket on my phone = $7.50 ‘convenience’ fee,” commented a passionate user.

Fees to Make Payments
“Any fee you have to pay in order to pay your bill online…”
It’s ironic to have to pay a fee to make a payment via phone or the Internet. Maybe the business uses outdated tech or is in need of money. Regardless, it doesn’t feel good having to pay.
Tap Water
Is the water at restaurants any better than the water you drink at home? Based on what this user paid, we can only hope so.
“I paid $6 for tap water at a restaurant 2 days ago,” someone commented.
Wheel Tax
A user said, “‘Wheel tax’ on my car’s registration. If you’re gonna charge me a certain amount, fine, don’t try to dress it up…”
Although a wheel tax is a legitimate fee in some US states, it’s questionable why it exists. Just ask this user.
Superior Quality Fee
This user felt tricked after paying a “superior quality” fee at a hotel. The worst part was finding out it would’ve been six times cheaper to buy the item directly at the store.
“While on holiday in Bali, I had to pay a lost fee for Snorkeling goggles. Paid $65 because they were ‘superior quality,’ only to drive by a shop and see the woman buy a new snorkeling pack on the side of the road for not even $10…” this user remarked.
