“Malta is home to countless beautiful beaches, snorkeling, and diving, as well as a great nightlife (MTV Europe hosts a lot of parties on Malta) and wonderful culture,” reports one woman. “I love that island. And it feels safe.”
Safety is often female solo travelers’ first concern when visiting unfamiliar places, so it’s good to know that Malta checks off this box!
2. Ambergris Caye, Belize
Outdoor lovers should look no further than this jaw-dropping island in Belize. Ambergris Gaye is fantastic for women who love to scuba dive, and there is an abundance of jungles and Mayan ruins to explore on foot!

3. Gold Coast, Australia
Sometimes, feeling properly welcomed into a new country is enough for any woman to feel at home. By all accounts, Australia’s Gold Coast is home to some of the nicest people in the world (and the beaches aren’t bad, either).
“I just like the vibe of the people down there, and the cities are nice,” explains one traveler. “It can be tough to backpack around, though, as it’s very spread out. I’m trying to return one day soon.”
4. Grenoble, France
Studying overseas is a dream for many students, and according to one woman who lived the dream herself, Grenoble, France, is the place to be!
“I did an internship in Grenoble, France, and loved it!” recalls one ex-student. “A great place to visit in the winter because it’s a ski destination. The entire city is surrounded by mountains (the Alps on one side, the Pyrenees on the other), so you have great views no matter where you are.
“Not to mention, the city is very academic, with several universities. Thus, I was able to meet many local students around my age and have a lot of fun.”
5. Prague, Czech Republic
One of the most underrated gems in central Europe, Prague has built a reputation for easy living, friendly residents, and a fantastic culture that is primarily based around outdoor activities such as bike riding.
According to many women, their most fond memories of traveling through Europe were bicycling through Prague’s historic neighborhoods, like Old Town and Little Quarter.
6. Bali, Indonesia
Ask anyone about Bali, and you’ll likely hear words like magical, surreal, spiritual, and beautiful. It’s true: Bali is all of these things, and as a result, it’s one of the most popular destinations for women in 2023. From the inexpensive cost of living to the unbeatable year-round climate, it’s an affordable way to witness truly unforgettable beauty on your next vacation.
7. Costa Rica
Due to its affordability and safety, all solo female travelers should add Costa Rica to their list of must-visit places. One woman puts it all into perspective.
“I spent a summer alone in Costa Rica, which was a lovely experience,” says one experienced solo traveler. “It’s beautiful, to say the least, and has a remarkable variety in ecosystem and cultures for such a small country. I wish I could have seen more of the jungle and the wildlife.
“It’s pretty easy (and cheap!) to travel just about anywhere by bus, especially if you speak Spanish. I also always felt pretty safe, even as a small, young woman traveling by myself.” I love hearing stories like these!
8. Pai, Thailand
Thailand is the home of many laid-back cities filled with delicious cuisine and friendly residents. Many female travelers admit that Pai is the Thai city that impresses them the most. Although it’s far from traditional bodies of water, Pai is home to countless hot springs, which travelers of all ages understandably go crazy for!

“London is my favorite place in the world,” confesses one woman. “There is so much history and many things to do and see. It’s a lovely city and one I very much want to return to.”
10. Kyoto, Japan
Seamlessly meshing technology and historical culture, female travelers love visiting Kyoto! Compared to more extensive, sprawling cities like Tokyo, Kyoto has an infinitely friendlier population, making any adventure far more palatable.
