A newly married couple intentionally delayed their wedding reception party, causing one family member to leave and angering other guests. However, this man decided to take something back to recoup the time lost, causing tensions among the newlyweds.
The Wedding Schedule
The original poster, Adam (45), and his wife accepted an invitation to his niece’s wedding ceremony.
Although Adam was hesitant to attend the wedding—based on his negative experiences at previous family parties—he and his wife agreed to go.
Wedding Details
The wedding was scheduled to occur at a church on a Saturday and finish by 3:30 p.m.
The party was set to begin at the reception venue at 5 p.m.
The Wedding Day
The wedding ceremony lasted longer than expected and didn’t end until 4:30 p.m.
It was time to head to the reception venue. The organizers had hired two limos: one for the newlyweds and another for the grandparents, parents, and siblings.
Guests Arrive at the Reception Venue
The reception venue was 15 miles from the church. Adam and his wife made it to the venue by 4:50 p.m.
By 5 p.m. all the guests had arrived, but there was no sign of the newlyweds. Their limo wasn’t in sight.
Delayed Reception Party
Without the newly married couple, the reception was on hold.
To make matters worse, the venue staff refused to open the bar or distribute the canapés until the bride and groom arrived.
The guests were stranded at the venue without food or drinks.
Rising Frustrations
No one could contact the couple, and people started getting uncomfortable.
Someone reached out to the maid of honor and demanded an explanation. She revealed that the newlyweds persuaded their driver to go to a liquor joint and then drive around the highway for an hour.
Understandably Disappointed
The guests were disappointed and felt disrespected. However, they decided to wait longer.
In addition, this was a once-in-a-lifetime event, and the newlyweds were understandably excited.
Perhaps they decided to park for an hour and start their honeymoon early?
Leaving Guests
Unfortunately, by 6 p.m., the newlyweds still hadn’t arrived at the venue.
However, the maid of honor assured the restless guests that the newlyweds would arrive within the next 20 minutes.
Adam and his wife looked at each other, and with a conclusive glance, they had had enough and were leaving.

Adam told his brother, the father of the bride, that he was leaving.
Adam said the couple was behaving disrespectfully, and he had had enough. He also told his brother that he was taking back the wedding gift.
The father of the bride defended the absent couple, explaining that they were just kids having fun.

A few days after the wedding, Adam received a text from his niece.
In the text, the young lady apologized and said she was still expecting her gift from Adam and his wife.
Adam expressed his disappointment and refused to send the gifts. The niece snapped and hurled an insult.
