Millennials online shared some of the worst advice they’ve received from baby boomers.

But is it bad advice or a misunderstanding between generations?

Let’s close the gap and learn from each other.

The Internet Is a Fad

A user said, “When I was in high school looking for a job my grandmother told me to just go to places and fill out applications; she told me it was useless using the Internet to look for a job. This was in 2008 and every place I checked for a job had an Internet-based application.”

Before Millennials make any judgments, let’s realize that we’re doing the same with crypto and the metaverse. New technology is never easy to accept, but it is often necessary.

Hopefully, this man used the Internet to fill out his applications.

Go With the Flow

Going with the flow can be the right answer, but not when it means letting others disrespect you. Turns out the customer isn’t always right, and you should respect yourself.

“My first retail job, any time I complained about customers or coworkers to my father I would get, ‘You just have to suck it up. It builds character, and you’ll always have something you don’t like about your job or coworkers,'” another user remarked.

Sorry, I’ll Take the Money

A user commented, “‘Babies just need love, not money.'”

While it’s true that love is one of the most crucial things we can give to our children, money is still an important factor. As a result, many prefer to be financially stable before having kids.

Too Much Persistence

“My friend’s dad got a fantastic job right out of college (with an unrelated bachelor’s degree…” one user said.

Refusing to leave a public business probably isn’t wise. You’ll be forcefully escorted out at best, and at worst, you could go to jail.

On the other hand, if you believe you’re qualified for a position, polish your resume and tap into your network instead. Your future self will thank you!

No Job Security

Another user commented, “One morning he caught me in the hall and somehow got into telling me how I really ought to find a job with a good pension.”

Pensions are a thing of the past.

While this isn’t good news, we now have the ability to make money from home. Making money online isn’t as easy as most “gurus” claim. Still, with hard work and patience, you can find new opportunities.

Being Entitled

Someone remarked, “My boss recently told me my generation was entitled.”

Millennials were once seen as “entitled,” and now Gen Z appears to have taken the crown. Unfortunately, history does tend to repeat itself.

Finding a Job Is Not Easy

If you’ve applied for any jobs lately, you know it’s far from easy. Yes, having a stellar Linkedin profile, reaching out to recruiters, and networking still work. However, you need to put in a lot of work and have a bit of luck to find your next gig.

In the meantime, why not try freelancing?

“My mother told me to ‘Just get a job. Tons of places are hiring,'” commented a passionate user.

Contradiction

“Not really advice but my neighbor was complaining about how useless and lazy millennials are after I snowblowed their driveway today.”

Not all Boomers talk badly about Millennials, especially after receiving a good deed from one, but sadly, this was this Millennial’s experience.

Going to College Without a Plan

“Just go to college even if you don’t know what you want to do.”

With online courses, free YouTube videos, and an abundance of free books, is college really necessary?

Sure, college makes sense if you want to be a lawyer or a doctor, but what if you want to build a business or do construction?

Use a Temp Agency

If you’re not hearing back after applying for jobs, a temp agency may be able to find you a temporary job to help you get experience or some income in the meantime.

However, sustainable work is fine, but at what cost? There’s nothing wrong with using a temp agency to land a job, but you may be leaving some money on the table.

“Temp agencies will get you sustainable work. Why are you looking online for jobs when there are temp agencies?” someone commented.
